Markets in Everything: Mobile Human Phone Booths

One of the most interesting service you find on the street in Peru is the “llamadas”. It’s generally women or teenagers with a bundle of mobile phones and a stop-watch who act as human pay phones. They wear colorful clothes with mobile carriers brands (see photo above) and the “llamadas” logo (that they also shout when you pass by).

Interesting, wonder how well it does.

I concur with lars.

I also wonder if this is a phone-company idea, a private company idea, or a collection of individual endeavors.

What do they do, do you think, if someone tries to book with one or more of the phones?

I already see how to make it work even better: Have girls in bikinis doing it (yeah, they'll need some other mechanism for carrying the phones... heh.)

You can bet some guys would use the phones just for the excuse to flirt with the girl.
